Aston Villa are set to sign Manchester united goal keeper Sam Johnstone if everything goes according to plan. The Championship side are aiming to snap up the 24 year old in order to bolster their chances of getting promoted next season around and get back to the top division in England.

The English man has already been part of the Aston Villa set up as he spent the second half of the last season on loan at Villa Park. During that time, the keeper impressed the club officials in the 22 games he got to play for their club.

In that time, Johnstone managed to keep eight clean sheets and that has compelled Villa to come back in again and test United’s resolve with either a loan deal for the keeper or maybe even a permanent deal.

Chief Executive of Aston Villa, Keith Wyness suggests that a deal is close and that Villa are leading the race for his signature ahead of rivals Middlesbrough who are also in for the goalie as their newly appointed gaffer, Gary Monk looks to snap up a reliable player to be deployed between the sticks.

Keith Wyness is quoted saying by Birmingham Mail

I would hope for something next week,

United still don’t know what they’re doing with their goalkeeping situation. I think we’re still in pole position.

The last season’s heroics have also managed to turn the heads of certain Premier League clubs with Crystal Palace, West Brom, Leicester City and Huddersfield Town all interested in the keeper as well.

But at the moment, it is Aston Villa who are in pole position and appear the most likely destination for the 24 year old having spent some time there already in the past.

Reports suggest that Steve Bruce has pinned Johnstone as the number one target for the club to get him and Wyness remains confident of landing the Manchester United player at Villa Park this summer.
