According to the Birmingham Mail, Championship side Aston Villa are interested in acquiring the services of Manchester City shot stopper, Joe Hart.

Hart has been away on loan at Serie A side Torino after being benched sparsely used by City gaffer Pep Guardiola at the beginning of the 2016/17 season. Despite playing away from England for the first time, Hart had mixed success.

The 30-year-old has five clean sheets to his name in his 36 league appearances for the Serie A side. He conceded 62 goals at an average of 1.72 goals per game in a season which saw the club from Turin finish ninth. His impressive performances have led the Italian outfit to ask for his services for the next season as well but it is said that the goalkeeper wants to return to England.

Aston Villa, gaffer Steve Bruce wants to challenge for promotion this season and the acquisition of the England number 1 would be a huge step forward in the road to the Premier League.

Steve Bruce has the potential to lure the Englishman to the midlands having brought Chelsea legend John Terry on a one year deal despite many Premier League clubs battling for the 36 year old’s signature.

Hart’s form in recent years hasn’t been the best but he still is a Premier League winner with valuable experience. A move to Aston Villa would take him off the limelight which might be beneficial for him but with the FIFA World Cup fast approaching, he might seek regular top flight action.

The Englishman has a contract till 2019 and having examined the shotstopper’s situation closely, Aston Villa have made initial contact with the Blue side of Manchester. If Villa do manage to strike a deal for Hart, it will go on to be the best piece of business to be done by a Championship side this summer.
