Midfielder Lucas Piazon has signed a new 2-year contract with Chelsea before being sent on a season-long loan to Championship club, Fulham.

Piazon is one of the highly rated youngsters contracted with Chelsea at the moment. He joined the club as a youth player from São Paulo in 2011. After spending a year in the academy, he signed a senior contract with the Blues. Piazon also won the Chelsea 2011-12 Young Player of the Year award.

But like a number of Chelsea youths, Piazon has been unable to break into the first team. He has made a total of 3 appearances for the Blues, all of them coming during the 2012-13 season under Di Matteo.

Since then, the 23-year old has been sent out on 5 loan spells. He has racked up 120 appearances with the clubs, scoring 24 goals in the process.

Last season, the Brazilian was on loan with Fulham. He had an impressive time with the club, scoring 9 goals in 26 appearances. The Championship club decided to take the player on loan once again as they look to push for promotion this season.

The player was about to enter last year of his contract with Chelsea. But the Blues decided to extend his contract by another year before allowing him to rejoin Fulham. Here is what the player had to say on completing his move to Fulham –

I believe it is a very good move for me and I am very happy with the decision.

There is a certain feeling of unfinished business. It felt like I must come back and help the team to reach what we were chasing last year, so it will be a very exciting season.

‘This is the first time I will spend two seasons with a club. I am excited to see the boys and get back into training

Piazon becomes the 12th player to leave Chelsea on loan this summer. He joined Loftus-Cheek and Tammy Abraham who joined Crystal Palace and Swansea City over the past few weeks.

The lack of opportunities at the Blues has forced a number of players to leave the club permanently. Dominic Solanke and Chalobah left Chelsea this summer in search of regular first team football.
