The story of a reunion couldn’t be laid out better than this one, as Gerard Deulofeu rejoined Barcelona 4 years after leaving the club.
The transfer was made official today by the Spanish giants. The move was initiated earlier this month, when Barcelona triggered the buy-back clause in the Spaniard’s contract.
Deulofeu underwent a medical on Friday and the Catalans announced the news on their website.
Barca said on their website –
Deulofeu formalises return to Barcelona. The 23-year-old forward was at the club’s offices on Friday morning to sign the deal that brings him back to the team after four seasons with Everton, Sevilla, and AC Milan.
Before heading to the club’s offices to sign the deal along with club president Josep Maria Bartomeu, Deulofeu underwent a pre-season physical at the team’s training centre with the rest of Barca’s internationals.
Deulofeu had joined Barcelona’s Youth Academy in 2003, and came up through the various ranks to make his professional debut in 2011. Then in the following season, that is 2012-13, he made 4 appearances for the Catalans. After 10 consecutive years in Barcelona, he was loaned out to Everton in 2013.
Deulofeu had a significant stint in the Merseyside. After spending a season with the Toffees, he was loaned out to Sevilla in 2014, a club nearer than Everton.
The 23 year old made a permanent switch to the Merseyside in 2015. The fee was in the region of £4.3 million.
Deulofeu was not very much impressive in the start and did not get many opportunities in the Premier League. In 2016-17, the Spaniard made 13 appearances for the Merseysiders in the first half of the season.
Due to the insignificant performances, he was loaned out to AC Milan for the latter half where he shone very well. In the 18 games he took part, he scored 4 goals. These performances were the reason, Barcelona decided to bring back their former asset.
