Liverpool started their pre – season campaign with a friendly against the National League side Tranmere Rovers. The friendly was held at Prenton Park and most of the senior players, like Lallana, Coutinho, Mane and Mignolet did not take a part in the game.
New signing, Mohamed Salah was also not able to take part due to some work permit issues. Other than this, the rest of the squad was given a chance to show their manager the resolve to break into the first team for the next season. Liverpool won 4-0 with goals from Milner, Grujic, Chirivella and the 17 year old Ben Woodburn.
The German manager was pulled aside for a quick post-match conference and was asked to comment on Liverpool’s transfer window so far. The indirect question, that why Liverpool are not buying anyone, was deduced by the boss. The gaffer seemed entirely relaxed when he heard the question.
Klopp insists that Liverpool are on the right track in the transfer window. The fact that other teams are signing a player day in and day out would not force him to do the same. The German is quoted saying by Metro –
We also bought players, Yes and they [Liverpool’s rivals] lost a lot of players.
I heard Man United lost players, got new players. Don’t know about Chelsea, I’ve not heard a lot.
If any of our fans think about what the other teams are doing and why we aren’t doing anything, I can’t help, sorry. We cannot only buy players because other teams buy players.
We do our business as good as we can do it and we are completely in it and we are convinced about the way that we are going so that’s all.
Nervous fans? Sorry I cannot help, I don’t have to write a message for this. I’m not nervous – maybe that’s the right message for this.
Manchester United have signed Romelu Lukaku for £75 million from Everton and Chelsea have signed Rudiger from Roma.
Liverpool have signed only 2 players so far, club record transfer Mohamed Salah from Roma and Dominic Solanke from Chelsea.
The Reds were in the pursuit of Virgil van Dijk but had to stop in midway after they were accused of making a contact with the player in an illegal way.
When asked about Virgil van Dijk, he said –
Am I allowed to talk about this? No, I’m not.
Pretty much everything what I could say would be a mistake, I think.
You wrote everything about it a few weeks ago, I think. I was in Iceland when somebody told me this. That’s all I have to say about it.
Klopp’s other number one target is Naby Keita but RB Leipzig have publicly stated that the central midfielder is not for sale. There are no reports for Liverpool being linked with backups for these players which can either be good news or bad news.
