According to a report by Daily Star, Ander Herrera is on the verge of signing a new contract with Manchester United. The Spanish midfielder has entered the last year of his contract and the Red Devils are keen to extend his stay.

Ander Herrera was one of the stars for Manchester United last season. The 27-year old nailed down a starting position under Jose Mourinho, helping United to lift the League Cup and Europa League. He made 50 appearances across all competition, scoring 2 goals in the period.

At the beginning of this summer, Barcelona made an attempt to sign the player. The Spanish giants were impressed by his performances and believed he could be a good replacement for the likes of Xavi and Iniesta.

Manchester United were not interested in selling the player. Herrera came out and said that he won’t be leaving the Red Devils anytime soon.

Manchester United are now in talks with the player regarding a new contract. Daily Star revealed that Herrera will be signing a 4-year contract and will earn around £200,000 per week.

This would make him one of the highest earning players at the club. Manchester United fans love the player and will be happy to hear the news of Herrera’s extension.

Herrera has become one of the key players under Jose Mourinho. Last week, Manchester United announced that the Spaniard will be taking up the role of vice-captain after the departure of Wayne Rooney.

The former Athletic Bilbao player is likely to lead the side on most occasions as Captain Carrick will not be a regular starter next season.

The new contract is set to be announced in the coming days. Meanwhile, Jose Mourinho is looking to strengthen his midfield options this summer.

The Red Devils boss is keen to bring in a former player, Nemanja Matic. Chelsea is willing to let the player leave this summer after signing Bakayoko from Monaco.
