According to Metro, Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic has been training away from the squad as a move to Manchester United looks to edging closer

Matic has played a crucial role in Chelsea’s success over the past seasons. The Serbian midfielder returned to the Bridge in January 2014, following a spell between 2009-2011.

Last season, he formed a formidable midfield partnership with N’Golo Kante as they took Chelsea to dominating Premier League title. Matic’s goal in the semi-final of the FA Cup gave the Blues an opportunity at the League double but were beaten by Arsenal in the final.

However, Antonio Conte believes Tiemoue Bakayoko is a better partner for Kante. The Italian boss is looking to offload the player this summer as he looks to bring in the Monaco star in the coming days.

According to Telegraph, the Serbian enforcer returned to Chelsea for pre-season training this week. But he has been working on fitness away from the squad which has convinced his team-mates about a move away this summer.

Manchester United are heavily linked with a move for Matic. Jose Mourinho is looking to reunite with his former player this summer as he looks to bring back the glory days to Old Trafford next season.

Last week, reports suggested that Manchester United and Chelsea had agreed on a 35.7 million fee for the player. But after Lukaku’s swoop, the Blues have been enraged and are now asking for more than 40 million.

Inter Milan also joined the race for his signature this week. Chelsea are likely to sell the player to Inter rather than strengthen their Premier League rivals. However, Matic has set his eyes on a move to Manchester United this summer.

Chelsea are yet to make significant upgrades to the squad this summer. Antonio Rudiger became their first signing who is considered to be a replacement for John Terry.

Antonio Conte is frustrated by the lack of urgency shown by Chelsea’s transfer staff as he fears the new signing won’t have enough time to gel with the squad before the beginning of next season.
