Chelsea easily breezed past former European Champions, Nottingham Forrest in the Carabao Cup to win 5-1 to advance to the last 16 in the competition. The Premier League champions played a lot of youngsters and still managed to advance.

Antonio Conte made eight changes to the lineup that started against Arsenal in the Premier League draw on Sunday.

Batshuayi spearheaded the attack with Eden Hazard and Charlie Musonda played behind him. Brazilian Kenedy and new signing Davide Zappacosta started as wingbacks while Tiemoue Bakayoko started alongside Sunday’s starter Fabregas.

Captain Cahill, Rudiger and Christensen started in the back three in front of veteran keeper Caballero.

Kenedy opened the scoring followed by a hattrick by Batshuayi and a debut goal for Musonda. Youngsters like Ethan Ampadu, Jake Clarke Salter and Dujon Sterling also were given some first-team minutes by the Italian gaffer.

Looking at Chelsea’s next round clash with Everton on the 23rd of October, Conte said

It’s a tough game.

You know very well they are one of the best teams in this league. But we are ready.

Talking about his team’s performance, he said –

We must be pleased for the performance, we won the game,

We play in the next round, this is positive for us.

We gave a chance to youngsters. The answers were very positive, for sure it is a good night.

Everton also got past ex-Premier League club Sunderland with considerable ease. Youngster Dominic Calvert Lewin impressed again scoring twice while Oumar Niasse netted a late one in.
