According to a recent publication by IBTimes, Everton were interested in signing Chelsea striker, Diego Costa. The Toffees were preparing a £70 million bid to bring the Spanish International to Merseyside.
Diego Costa was one of the hottest topics of discussion throughout the summer. It all began when Conte informed that the player was not a part of his plans via text message. The striker vowed to not return to Stamford Bridge and has also relocated his family to Spain.
Costa made many attempts to secure a move away from the London based club earlier this summer with his eyes firmly set on returning to Atletico Madrid. The Red-and-Whites are currently facing a transfer ban and will have to wait until January to register any players.
This week, the La Liga giants announced that they have reached an agreement with Chelsea and the move will be finalized in the coming weeks. But Costa will have to wait till the turn of the year to make his debut.
Roman Abramovich could have made more money on the striker if he sold him last month. IBTimes believes that Ronald Koeman identified Diego Costa are a replacement for Romelu Lukaku.
The Dutch boss was looking to sign Olivier Giroud from Arsenal. But Wenger was keen on keeping hold of the Frenchman for another season. Everton was ready to make ready to make a £70 million bid for the player. The Toffees were also preparing a £53 million salary package to lure him to Merseyside.
But according to the Metro, Costa was eager to return to Atletico Madrid and snubbed an opportunity to stay in the Premier League. Chelsea could have made £17 million more if he had joined Everton last month.
Diego Costa is set to complete his move once he completes his medical this week. There is a possibility that the Spaniard could be unveiled before Atleti’s Champions League fixture against Chelsea on Wednesday.
