According to recent reports in the English media, Everton have emerged as shock second-favourites to sign Paris Saint Germain’s star striker Edinson Cavani.

The Toffees have struggled in front of the goal this season after the departure of hit-man Romelu Lukaku.

The signings of Wayne Rooney and Sandro Ramirez haven’t really shown the impact that they should’ve and this has led boss Ronald Koeman to think of other plans. The Merseyside club have only scored twice in 5 league games this season and that isn’t good for a club of Everton’s calibre.

On the other hand, Cavani recently fell out with his teammate and Brazilian marquee signing Neymar over a penalty in their 2-0 victory over Lyon. Cavani and Neymar both wanted to take the penalty but at the end of the quarrel, Neymar decided to give up but the 30-year-old striker ended up missing it leaving him red-faced.

Chelsea, Everton and Napoli all seem to be interested in acquiring the 30 year old’s signature.

Chelsea won’t be able to guarantee the striker a starting position following their £58 million acquisition of Alvaro Morata, Everton won’t be able to guarantee the striker a Champions League appearance whilst Napoli won’t be able pay his £120,000 salary.

According to Ladbrokes, Everton are lining up an audacious bid for Cavani and are 6/1 second-favourites with the bookmakers to land the forward’s signature next summer.

Premier League champions Chelsea are presently the favourites at 5/1 to sign the Uruguayan international, Manchester City are at 8/1, Barcelona, Real Madrid and Manchester United are all at 10/1, while Juventus are at 12/1.

PSG would be interested in getting rid of the striker following the £200 million signing of Neymar and the burden of a payout of £170 million to Monaco for Mbappe next summer.
