The Antoine Griezmann to Manchester United saga was one of the highlights of the bygone summer transfer window. The English giants were desperate to recruit the Frenchman with the iconic number seven jersey also vacant at Old Trafford at the moment.

But Atletico Madrid were handed a transfer ban until January of this year which prevents them from registering new players. The transfer that looked imminent did not take place as Griezmann did not want to leave the Spanish outfit hanging and opted to stay instead.

With the kind of talent and reputation, the 26-year-old has, there will never be a dearth of offers for the French hitman. And rather unsurprisingly, Real Madrid have jumped onto the transfer race for his signature.

It is still highly unlikely that Atletico will let go of their player in the January window but chances of the Frenchman staying past the next summer appear to be rather slim.

Atletico’s neighbours were rather quiet by their own standards in this transfer window as they were busy recruiting young talent for the squad. But Real Madrid president, Florentino Perez is always on the lookout for Galacticos and it appears that he might have found one in Griezmann.

A report in the Spanish transfer outlet Don Balon (via Daily Star) suggests that the La Liga giants will not be hesitating to pay up the £92 million release clause inserted in Griezmann’s contract at Atletico in this inflated market.

A move for the exciting forward makes sense at the time as well with Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema not performing at optimum levels.

While Benzema is out on the sidelines for at least a month, Bale has been booed by the fans on multiple occasions due to his erratic form on the pitch. Griezmann could be a potential strike partner for Real’s main man, Cristiano Ronaldo as the Madrid based team look to dominate competitions this year as well.
