Manchester United’s scouts were in attendance at the Stadio Olimpico stadium as AS Roma took on Atletico de Madrid in their opening UEFA Champions League encounter, according to Mirror.

Saul Niguez is considered as the ideal replacement to Manchester United legend, Michael Carrick who has his age catching up with him. At the age of 36, it is expected that Michael Carrick will call it a time on his Old Trafford career at the end of the season.

The departure of the legendary Englishman would considerably weaken United’s midfield. Saul Niguez who is just 22 years of age would be a quality and long-serving addition to the Manchester United midfield.

Saul started at Real Madrid’s youth academy, La Fabrica but was however tempted to switch to their arch-rivals, Atletico Madrid after spending just two seasons with the Whites.

One thing that might prove to be a huge stumbling block in Ed Woodward’s way of signing up the Spaniard would be his current contract. Saul signed a ridiculously long nine-year contract with Atletico Madrid earlier this year!

The contract ties down the player with Los Colchoneros until June 30th, 2026. The tenure of the contract would compel United to splurge handsomely for Saul if any deal has to go through.

A separate report published by Daily Star has also claimed that United’s scouts were also keenly observing AS Roma’s Radja Nainggolan.
