Newcastle United entered the Premier League this time around at the back of a strong season in the Championship. The Magpies won the English second division quite comfortably in the end which awarded Rafa Benitez and his team, a direct passage to the Premier League.
With the kind of talent Benitez brought into the club over the summer transfer window, it was expected that Newcastle United would hit it off right from the start from the campaign. But with the Magpies currently occupying the tenth place in the league, Benitez is not happy with the way things have gone so far.
Newcastle have only managed to score six goals in as many games and Benitez knows that he cannot expect more from his players of the goals are coming in for his team. As a result, Benitez might push forward towards a move for Garry Rodrigues.
The 26-year-old currently plies his trade with Galatasaray and is highly rated in the Turkish League. Moreover, Benitez was after the Cape Verdean international as the Magpies were reported to have bid an amount of £6 million for the attacker.
Despite the bid getting rejected, Benitez was confident that he would get the deal done through in another window with gaffer focusing on other positions for the moment during the bygone summer window.
The winger has managed to achieve three assists for the club in just five games this season.
Recent reports suggest that Benitez is already eyeing a move for Rodrigues this season. Newcastle are expected to go in for the player in the January transfer window with a little more budget.
The Magpies’ scouts have been monitoring the progress of Rodrigues this season and Benitez has only received positive reviews of the player form his trusted sources.
