Everton are set to face Apollon Limassol, a club from Cyprus in their Europa League encounter. The encounter is set to take place this Thursday.
Apollon will require Everton’s real attention since the club is capable of some real upset. They beat Danish powerhouse FC Midtjylland which is just one slot behind Hull City in UEFA coefficient rankings.
Their last Europa league encounter against Atalanta didn’t go so well for Everton. They lost the match 3-0 in Italy and that led to a sort of crisis in the Everton ranks.
Gaffer Ronald Koeman held a crisis meeting with the senior members of the squad and things have looked better since then for the Toffees. They have won their last two matches and look very upbeat.
Captain Ashley Williams has stated that the new found form will nothing if the Toffees can’t replicate the performance in the Europa League.
We have to keep this going,
If you don’t win the next game, then it feels bad again.
We’ve won two now. We need to keep the run going, especially at home, and we need a win in the Europa League as well.
This is the predicted lineup set to face the Cypriot side at Goodison Park –
Koeman is most likely to start regular first team keeper Jordan Pickford in the goal because he wouldn’t want to take a chance in the Europa league. Pickford has performed decently between the sticks and he should continue his form to the Europa League clash.
Mason Holgate might start at RB like he did in the 2-1 victory over Bournemouth. Veteran defender Phil Jagielka and young gun Michael Keane as Center Backs followed by the vastly experienced Leighton Baines at Left Back.
Everton defence has not been up to the mark till now in the Premier League but Dutch boss Koeman will be hoping for a better showing in the Europa League.
The midfield is most likely to consist of two holding center mids in the form of youngsters Mo Besic and Tom Davies. When Besic is on song, the 25 year old Bosnian is a horror to play against. With his snappy tackles, endless energy and unwavering spirit, he is the ideal defensive midfielder. Tom Davies
Tom Davies is, on the other hand, an Everton academy graduate who knows the game Toffees play very well and is very disciplined with the positional side of his game. The 19-year-old is an upcoming star for the Toffees and carries immense potential.
Gaffer Koeman is likely to give Ademola Lookman a chance at right wing. The former Charlton Athletic player signed for Everton in January and since then gone on to develop exponentially. Record signing Gylfi Sigurdsson is likely to start as the centre attacking mid bringing his vision and sublime passing into play. The summer signing scored an exceptional goal in the Europa League qualifying campaign and the Toffees would be hoping for a similar showing from the 27-year-old Iceland international in this match.
Fiery youngster Dominic Calvert Lewin is expected to start on the Left wing. The 20-year-old has been one of the bright spots in Everton’s campaign till now. The Englishman has incredible pace and the knack to get into the right places at the right time. He could be Everton’s best performer in the game.
Summer signing Sandro Ramirez is likely to start as the lone striker. Since the departure of Romelu Lukaku, Everton hasn’t scored a lot of goals and that is mainly due to the inability of the strikers at Everton’s disposal to be clinical in front of the goal. Sandro will be hoping for a better showing in the Europa League if given the chance.
