Aston Villa sealed a season-long loan deal for Manchester United goalkeeper Sam Johnstone at the start of the summer and the move has paid off well for them. The Championship outfit has been reaping the benefits of the young goal keeper’s heroics.
The 24-year-old has been a mainstay between the sticks for Villa and Steve Bruce has been heaping the praise onto the young English man.
Johnstone had joined Villa last season as well during the second half of the season and had impressed the gaffer enough to sanction a loan move for him yet again.
With the likes of John Terry and James Chester in front of him, Johnstone has enjoyed a strong defensive partnership in front of him but that does not mean that he has not been called upon.
Instead, Johnstone has kept seven clean sheets in eight games which have propelled Villa to the seventh place after a slow start to the season.
Steve Bruce has not hidden the fact that the club wants to secure the player on a long-term basis. Bruce mentioned that Villa will be approaching Manchester United in the winter transfer window to inquire about his availability.
Bruce hopes that his side will be able to sign Johnstone on a permanent deal which will ensure that Johnstone stays the number one goalkeeper for the team in the years to come. According to Bruce, the resurgence of the youngster has been due to the extended run of games he has got with the first team.
The confidence level has certainly increased for Johnstone and playing at Aston Villa has really turned him into a better footballer. A permanent deal would make sense for him as well since there is a very little chance that he would be the number one at Old Trafford.
