According to a recent report by the Daily Star, Andres Iniesta is not in favour of Coutinho joining Barcelona. The Spanish midfielder fears that the Liverpool man will eat up his minutes in the starting XI next season.
Philippe Coutinho was on the Barcelona radar this past summer. Since the beginning of the transfer window, the La Liga giants made attempts to sign the Brazilian. Neymar’s departure saw the Blaugrana side step up their interest in the player.
To Barcelona’s dismay, Jurgen Klopp was in no mood of selling one of his best players, forcing Barcelona to look elsewhere. The La Liga giants made as many 3 bids to tempt Liverpool. But the Merseyside club rejected them immediately. Eventually, they signed Paulinho and Dembele before the closure of the transfer window.
Recent reports believe that Ernesto Valverde will move for Coutinho next summer. But some Barcelona senior players are against it as they fear their playing time will be reduced.
Diario Gol claims that Iniesta and Rakitic are the rebels who don’t want the Brazilian at the club. The duo believes that they are already under too much pressure from the impressive performances of Paulinho and also competing with Sergi Roberto, Denis Suarez and Andre Gomes for their spot in the starting XI.
This should ideally not stop Valverde from making a move for Coutinho at the end of this season. The Barcelona boss believes the player has the abilities to void left by Neymar this summer.
Philippe Coutinho has been in impressive form for the Reds. The Brazilian midfielder has scored four goals and provided 3 assists in all competitions this season.
It is likely that Coutinho decides to make a move to Camp Nou. Liverpool have failed to make a start that would make a title contender in any competition. The Brazilian midfielder is set to leave England in favour for trophies and success next summer.
