Scottish giants Celtic have their firm grasp on the Premiership yet again early on in the season but Brendan Rodgers is not looking to take any chances. Celtic have been stung with a host of injuries to key players which has left a gaping hole in their defensive unit.

Rodgers is currently without first-choice Jozo Simunovic and Dedryck Boyata and in addition, Simunovic is rumoured to have suffered a long-term injury in the ongoing international break which makes matters worse for the gaffer.

As a result of this injury crisis, there is a high chance that Rodgers will be prioritizing a central defender when the winter transfer window arrives and we take a look at the three targets that Rodgers could go for in January.

Axel Tuanzebe (Manchester United)

The 19-year-old defender is highly rated by the club officials and tipped to be a starter for the English giants in the future. With Jose Mourinho already having an arsenal of defenders to choose from, Tuanzebe does not stand a chance to get any first team action with the Red Devils.

Celtic can step in and offer Tuanzebe the opportunity to help them win the title while he gains experience at the same time.

Malang Sarr (Nice)

Another youngster that Rodgers could go for is Malang Sarr. The 18-year-old Nice defender earned plaudits for his performances lasts season and proved that he can do it on the big stage. Despite his young age, Sarr has cemented his place in the senior side and his ability is for everyone to see.

Marc Oliver Kempf (SC Freiburg)

Kempf has been proving his worth in the Bundesliga while playing for Freiburg. The centre-back is also a regular for the German team and is vastly experienced despite being only 22 years old.

The factor that can work in favour of Celtic is that Kempf will be a free agent next summer as he has not signed a new deal with the club as of yet.
