Ahead of the Manchester United clash, Antonio Conte revealed that N’Golo Kante won’t make an appearance for Chelsea until he becomes fully fit. The French midfielder, who has been sidelined since the international break, made his return to training this weekend.
N’Golo Kante has been Chelsea’s main man since the start of last season. The Frenchman was one of the key players to the Blues title-winning success during the 2016/17 season. His performances saw him win the PFA Players’ Player of the Year award at the beginning of 2017.
Antonio Conte has been unlucky in the midfield department this season. In the summer, Chelsea sold Nemanja Matic to Manchester United for a hefty transfer fee.
This was followed by a number of academy product sales, leaving the Blues needing a midfielder. On deadline day, they managed to lure Danny Drinkwater to Stamford Bridge.
However, at the beginning of the season, Bakayoko and Drinkwater were out with injuries leaving Conte with only Fabregas as the recognized midfielder. The former Monaco player made his return quickly. Whereas Drinkwater didn’t start his training until last month.
Things seemed to work fine for Chelsea until recently. N’Golo Kante picked a hamstring injury at the recently concluded international break. The Frenchman returned to training this week but is 50-50 for the important clash with Manchester United.
Antonio Conte will be worried about his current set of midfielders after the 3-0 beating they received from Roma in the Champions League. The Italian manager would be hoping that N’Golo Kante would be fit for the Premier League affair on Sunday.
In an interview with Mediaset Premium (via the Standard), the Chelsea gaffer revealed that he won’t be risking the player at any cost and will wait until he is ready.
After an important muscular problem, it would be stupid to risk it, so when Kante feels at 100 percent, he will return to playing
