Chelsea’s cross-town rivals, Arsenal have joined the race to sign long-term target Kalidou Koulibaly, according to The Sun. The Blues have been in the quest for the Senegalese defender for the past two years but, have failed to close the deal with the Naples based side even after multiple attempts.

Koulibaly is known to be one of the best defenders in the Serie A. After spending 2 seasons with Metz, he moved to Napoli for a reported transfer of £6.5 million. Since making his debut in August 2014, the 26-year old has made 161 appearances for The Partenopei.

Koulibaly has been on the radar of multiple clubs over the past summers and the coming summer would be no different. The player will be subject to interest from numerous Premier League clubs once again.

According to a report published by the Sun, the Gunners have joined the race to sign Koulibaly. Arsenal will require signing reinforcements to improve their defence which failed on multiple occasions

The Gunners conceded 51 goals in the Premier League, most among the top 6 clubs this season. Mustafi, Chambers and Holding have failed to provide a solution to the Gunners defensive voes. With Koscielny likely to miss the start of next season, Arsenal are in desperate need of a centre-back.

Daily Express claims that Napoli value the player at £53 million. But that is not the main problem for Arsenal/Chelsea. Due to lack of Champions League next season, both clubs will have a lot of convincing to do if they are to secure his signature this summer.

It will be interesting to see if the Londoners are successful in pricing away Koulibaly in the upcoming transfer window.
