If reports from Leeds-Live are to be believed, Leeds United are pursuing a move for Liverpool’s James Milner. The midfielder has been in the thick of action for the Reds and has played a huge part in their perfect season so far, having guided them to six league wins and a marvellous Champions League victory over Paris Sait-Germain.

He is still going strong at 32 but Liverpool could refuse to extend his contract, which runs till the end of next season. Milner, who started out as a ball boy for Leeds, broke his way into the first team and became the youngest goal-scorer in the Premier League at the age of 16. In total, he made 54 appearances for them.

He would most certainly be welcomed by the Whites’ fans, who would love to see their successful home-grown commodity back at Elland Road before he calls time on his footballing career.

James Milner is one of the most versatile footballers to have played the game. Starting from a deeper role in midfield to either side of it, he can play anywhere. The former Manchester City man also played at left-back for Jurgen Klopp when he was unsatisfied with Alberto Moreno. At present, he is just seven games away from a stunning yet demanding 500 Premier League appearances.

His tireless work rate, vision, energy and ability to understand the flow of proceedings sets him apart from others. Milner is tidy in possession and is a reliable man to have on the dead ball.

He might be one of the best in the league this season so far, but only time will tell if the club is ready to offer him a new deal. Nobody knows what might happen in the Premier League tomorrow. One on the side, Milner may continue to be a talisman for the Reds. On the other, he might turn into an out-of-favour veteran. Also to mention, he will mostly not go back to his former club if they don’t gain promotion to the top tier of English football.
