Summer recruit, Lucas Torreira had been making headlines for impressive performances for Arsenal lately. Torreira signed for the Gunners from Sampdoria following the completion of the World Cup at Russia.
After having a stellar season in Italy where the midfielder dominated Serie A, the Uruguayan rightly earned his move to the Premier League.
Although the deal was not made official until the completion of the World Cup, the Uruguayan revealed that he already knew that he would sign for Arsenal before starting his journey to Russia thanks to a phone call from Unai Emery.
Emery’s action made the 22-year-old certain of his future. Torreira was only able to steer his team till the quarterfinals of the World Cup.
Torreira told Arsenal Media –
Well, everything about Arsenal came out before the World Cup. When I was preparing to go to the World Cup with my country, with Uruguay, I received a call from the boss.
I had already had a talk with my agent who told me about the idea of Arsenal, and I was very happy because when I was in Italy, I never imagined being able to come to the Premier League.
When I went to the World Cup, I knew that whatever happened I was going to sign for Arsenal. So I was with a calm head, free, and luckily I had a great World Cup with my country.
Although Torreira hasn’t started a game for the Gunners yet, the kind of performances that he has been giving coming off the bench has impressed the Arsenal faithful. The same supporters have been calling out Torreira’s name to replace Granit Xhaka whose performances in the first few games has been abysmal.
