Manchester United big January signing Alexis Sanchez has struggled to live up to the hype, but a 90th-minute winner against Newcastle could prove a turning point.
Alexis Sanchez, a promising young talent from Udinese, who was picked up by Barcelona to spear-head the front line of the ever-dangerous Blaugrana team. But short-term injuries never gave him a continuous run in the Spanish side’s ranks and as a result, he was sold to Arsenal in 2014.
At Arsenal, he redeemed himself scoring 60 goals in 122 appearances for the Gunners. He ultimately left the Gunners to join Premier League rivals, Manchester United.
After a rather successful stint with Arsenal, Manchester United was considered an upgrade for the Chilean and he and the fans hoped that this would be the club where he breaks through as one of the top stars.
But Manchester United was, as they have been, a club in crisis when he joined them. He moved to Manchester United with big dreams as Henrikh Mkhitaryan was sent the other way. However, the Chilean who arrived at the hype of being Manchester United’s next legendary No. 7, managed to score just 3 goals in 5 months.
Mourinho conceded that Sanchez’s mid-season arrival might have made it difficult for him to settle in the team. He has been a favourite in the dressing room as the work-rate at training sessions he puts in are immense. But somehow, Sanchez hasn’t been able to show the same over consistent matches on the field.
A drop in the game against West Ham United and being substituted in every game but one this season hasn’t helped his confidence too surely. But after the winner he scored in a dramatic comeback for the Red Devils, he is ready to turn the screws and return to the best version of himself, according to close sources.
“The truth is that Alexis has a lot to prove but sometimes players go through tough times,” a source close to the player told MEN Sport.
“He is happy in Manchester and knows he has a lot to deliver. That’s why he works so hard.
“He wants to win everything.”
