After beating Manchester United in the 3rd Round of the Carabao Cup, Lampard’s Derby County return to the boss’ ‘home’ for the 4th round to face Chelsea.
However, in order to put up their best eleven in the game, Lampard will need special permission from his former club. That is to allow Mason Mount and Fikayo Tomori to play against their parent club in the Carabao Cup.
Mount and Tomori have been an integral part of Lampard’s plans for Derby County this season and their contributions have boosted Derby County’s performance. Tomori has made nine appearances while Mount has netted three times in his 10 Championship outings this season.
Lampard’s Derby County lost their game to Bolton in the Championship. The boss will be looking towards a club whose colours he dawned for almost 13 years to do him a favour in this clash.
The Derby County manager has been quoted saying –
It is a conversation to be had and I think it is Chelsea-led because they are their players
I am pretty sure it will be Chelsea’s decision. I think everyone knows what my decision would be, so it will be up to them.
He hopes that Chelsea will give him the green signal. Lampard is also keen to better Derby County’s results in the Championship as they currently are 8th in the League Table.
Lampard has three games before his side faces Chelsea in the 4th Round of the Carabao Cup. Derby faces Sheffield United, West Brom and Middlesbrough and Lampard will be looking to try and fit some new players just in case Chelsea rejects his appeal.
However, the gaffer hopes that Chelsea will listen to the plea made by him.
